I work collaboratively with you to address the issues that are important to you. We do this together by exploring your concerns and developing a plan to achieve the success you desire. Although I am a Marriage and Family Therapist, I am neither for nor against marriage. In fact, I believe all sorts of relationships bring people fulfillment and a sense of well-being. My fundamental orientation is systemic therapy. Psychological problems that afflict people are often related to the context of their lives and the quality of their interpersonal relationships.
I work exclusively with adult individuals and couples (no kids!). I specialize in anger, relationships, and communication issues (which include rage, cheating, depression, anxiety, domestic violence, and substance abuse), alternate lifestyles, and career counseling. I use Gottman Method Couples Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) in my work.
This is a second career for me--I have lots of life experience! After 27 years in high-tech executive management, traveling all over the country while managing a marriage, I went back to school and earned my MS and PhD degrees. When I began working on substance abuse and domestic violence as an intern in 2005, I realized that all my life experiences gave me special insights into the problems that people were trying to overcome. I officially began my career as a psychotherapist in 2007.
My entire career, first in business, then in psychotherapy, has been dedicated to how individuals and groups organize and work cooperatively to achieve their goals. I am serious about psychotherapy, but I like to laugh, too. My sessions are intense, but never depressing or boring! I use several well-regarded test instruments to help me identify exactly what you are experiencing. For example, I use one test instrument that measures the quality and degree of anger. Knowing this information allows me to tailor each therapy session to your needs.
In addition to being a Florida Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MT#2443), I have completed Level II Gottman Method Couples Therapy and a certificate course in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). I hold the following certifications: Anger Resolution; Batterer's Intervention Program (BIP) Facilitator; Trauma Resolution; U.S. Dept. of Transportation Substance Abuse Professional (SAP); Life Coach.
I understand that you may wish to use your insurance to help pay for your therapy. Not a problem! My associate, Robin, will electronically submit all of the necessary paperwork to your insurance company for you. We do not accept Medicare or Medicaid.
