As a Christian, my practice reflects that. My formal training was at a Christian University. Not all my clients are Christian, which is fine and something I respect. Many churches have caused great harm to their LGBTQ members through fear and shame based ideology, rejection, and abusive practices, such as conversion therapy. So... where do we go from here? Your spiritual journey is your own. Whether you work on deconstructing or interrogating or re-imagining your faith, I am here to support you. I work from a fully LGBTQ-affirming perspective to help queer Christians integrate faith and queer identity, normalize doubt, process religious trauma, and find a sense of belonging. There's nothing wrong with you. You are whole and holy, just as you are.

While I don't offer "Christian counselling" as a modality, I am a counsellor who is a Christian. I have a degree in Theology, and before becoming a psychotherapist I spent 10 years in pastoral church ministry. Many who have been part of the Church and ‘church culture’ have been impacted. Sorting through faith experiences and one’s theological beliefs is part of what might lead you to seek a Christian counsellor. In a place of love we are not afraid, there is acceptance in the presence of Christ and therein the freedom and safety to change. Current research into key factors of therapeutic healing points to "attachment:" Defined, this term matches the Biblical description of Love. Christ's Love is strong, restorative, clarifying and empowering. As we address the challenges and issues that are part of our earthly walk the love of Christ is here - present, strong and safe. As part of my graduate training in psychology, I also completed a Masters in Theology, as well as a pastoral practicum. My psychology training also included a focus on the integration of psychology and spirituality; how they can influence and strengthen each other. However, I never seek to inject my own beliefs into therapy! Rather, I feel it is important for me to understand how your faith and beliefs are a part of your understanding of your issues and how you can draw upon them. I try to see each of my patients as whole people, and that includes their faith and beliefs.

I counsel clients from a christian ministry. God is there to heal, and I support clients through god's words. We pray and seek his guidance, to overcome the stress that is overwhelming you, it may be anxiety, depression, disconnect of a relationship with a loved one, lack of self-care and/or other new stress that you need counselling support. Whether it is physical or mental pain, I use many therapeutic techniques, together with Christian beliefs to help clients heal.

Approaching counselling from a Christian perspective is not about relying on God to solve your problems, but rather learning how to align oneself to live and work within his created world and intentions for our happiness. Free will is an essential gift that allows us to explore this creation and find meaning and happiness that has been inspired by God. Developing a trust in God to guide and direct us in this task is an essential process in establishing faith that God will keep us safe whiling using our freewill and experience to look both ways before we cross the street.

The Christian lens I provide is based on the principles of speaking the truth in love, laying aside all masks & pretence and being congruent. By providing empathy, comfort, education, conviction, encouragement through a gentle process forged by listening and building trust, I offer a safe environment for people to release emotional pain. I can apply biblical principles to spur change in people’s hearts. This process is facilitated through personal responsibility while harnessing the brain's ability to heal whether by combining insights from social sciences, strengthening neural connections with brain training via Neurofeedback or processing barriers due to emotionally charged memories with EMDR.

Somehow when we know that Jesus is the one who is doing the healing, and we place our trust in Him, we can find peace within the journey of healing. "Come to me.....and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28). I am a counselor of Christian faith and I use healing prayer and the Bible along with cognitive and mind-body approaches in my work with Christian clients.

Is anyone tired of traditional "Christian" Counseling? I know I came to that place in my life growing up, when I didn't just want to hear that God could heal all of my messes (even though I knew He could - if it is His will), I wanted to know that someone (hear on earth) had my best interests at hand too! However, there is still evil around us, and we certainly don't just want to put our hearts in minds into the hands of just anyone. It is important, in my opinion, to have an educated counselor that knows what he or she is doing, who also see's counseling as a partnership between him/herself (the counselor), God and the power of prayer, and of course the client.
